Beginner guide
AlphaSignal user guide
How beginners can use the home Top lists and scores as a relative reference — not as buy/sell advice.
1. Get started in 3 minutes
- On Home, open the default tab Today · 1Y — a balanced “watch today” list for about a 1-year horizon.
- Tap a ticker on a card to open ticker detail — score breakdown, chart, filings, and pressure when available.
- (After login) use + My Top to save up to 5 favorites.
Lists are snapshots refreshed by daily batches. Opening the page does not recompute the full universe.
2. How to read scores (simply)
A score does not mean “this stock will go up.” It is closer to a relative position under the same rules on the same day.
Quant score (total score)
0–100Combines public financial and price factors such as growth, ROE, valuation, leverage, and momentum. Shown with the star/rating badge on cards.
A high score is not a guarantee of safety or undervaluation. Missing data or lag can leave scores empty or stale.
Today Invest (1Y / 3M)
Ranked listRanks names for a hold-horizon tilt (~1 year vs ~3 months). These are the primary home tabs.
Not a recommendation. 1Y and 3M ranks can differ; the shorter tab can move more.
Squeeze / short·options pressure
0–100 (pressure)A pressure screen from off-exchange short volume (e.g. FINRA) and, when available, call-side options activity.
Not the probability a squeeze will occur. Not the same as full short interest (SI).
Disclosure score
about −100 to +100Rule-based News / Insider / Earnings legs from recent SEC filings and the earnings calendar — mostly structured public forms and item codes. On ticker detail, rule hits appear as Risk (−) / Constructive (+) / Attention (~) chips (SEC links when available). Attention is not bullish. Earnings surprise from quant metrics is shown separately and is not part of the disclosure score.
Does not fully parse narrative “beat / new contract / buyback” headlines. Not an absolute good/bad verdict.
Next-session watch
0–100 (setup)Setup intensity into the next regular session — unusual volume, move, or event attention.
Not a forecast of tomorrow’s winners. Closer to an attention metric.
3. Choosing home tabs & themes
- Today · 1Y — start here. Balanced “watch today” list.
- Today · 3M — shorter-horizon / momentum tilt; can be noisier.
- My Top — your saved names (login, max 5).
- More themes — dividend, growth, stability, earnings week, 8-K, Form 4, disclosure score, short/options pressure, next-session, and more. Read each tab blurb; most are watches, not edge claims.
The performance scorecard shows how past Top lists moved afterward — an honesty record, not a promise of future returns.
4. What to check on ticker detail
- Quant score and factor breakdown — the backbone of “why this score”
- Price chart and macro context (rates, dollar, etc.) — atmosphere only
- Short volume / options pressure — when filled; may be empty
- Disclosure score + Filings — open the SEC link and read the original
- AI blurbs, if present — should cite cached facts only; they can be wrong
5. Important caveats
- Not investment advice. We do not tell you to buy, sell, or size a position. Decisions are yours.
- Scores are not absolute truth. The same number can mean different things by regime, sector, and data quality. “Buy at 90” is dangerous.
- Built from public / open statistics — U.S. prices and fundamentals proxies, FINRA short volume, SEC EDGAR filings, FRED rates, and similar disclosed sources. Not insider tips or paid newswires.
- Expect lag and gaps. Filings, FINRA, and options often fill after the close or evening batch; some tickers have no score.
- Models simplify. Disclosure scoring is form/item-code oriented, not full-document NLP. Not every Form 4 is an open-market buy.
- Past performance ≠ future results. Scorecards and history are for review only.
6. Checklist before you act
- Did you check the list’s date / freshness (or stale flag)?
- Does the idea fit your sector, price, and holding period — not only the score?
- For filing/pressure hits, did you open the SEC/original link?
- Did you avoid trusting one theme alone — and glance at macro context?
- Are you only experimenting with money you can afford to lose?
